Give Back Ten

The 2017-18 season marked got robot?'s tenth anniversary in FIRST - and we decided the best way to celebrate this is by saying thank-you in a big way to the community that has made those ten years fun and possible. This is where got robot's Give Back Ten project got its beginnings.

Over the course of a season or two, got robot? wants to raise $10,000 to buy STEM backpacks, books, and ultimately, a maker space for the local community to use that would be overseen by the Gail Borden Library. Gail Borden already has STEM kits for kids, but these are little-known, not very plentiful, and not exciting to check out. Our STEM backpacks with educational STEM toys, books, and information about FIRST and robotics will be comprehensive resources so that parents and kids can learn and discover together. All instructions and books will be available in English and Spanish, for the large Hispanic community in Elgin.

The next phase of the project will include supporting the infrastructure of Gail Borden so that these STEM kits and resources can be efficiently circulated. This is an important part of the vision.

Finally, got robot? wants to support a maker space for kindergarten-8th grade kids at the library by supplying 3-D printers, sewing resources, LEGO Mindstorms kits, and other items. This space would be at the Gail Borden Library Elgin Branch.

As of the 2020-2021 FTC season got robot? has completed its goal of rasing $10,000! We intend to continue our partnership with the Gail Borden Public Library throughout our season.

We'd love your support in our mission to make STEM accessible in our community!
